Craftsman character meets contemporary design.

We matched and expanded on the home’s beautiful woodwork and detailing, then introduced modern transparency while accommodating a tight setback to connect the interior with screen-porch living outside—an in-town treehouse.

At the front of the home, we transformed the porch from a simple transitional entry into a welcoming arrival point, adding a sloped roof, stonework, trellis, and subtle references to the style and details found inside.

And we think “craftsman meets contemporary” makes sense as a descriptor. I still remember telling you that we needed to move from “cottage” to more “craftsman, only more sleek and modern.” You did it — of course!

Working with Sophie was enlightening and exciting. She opened our eyes to a more beautiful, more spacious home. We asked for light and outdoor access, and Sophie gave us more with creative ways for us to have multi-season, inviting spaces. We wanted a less fussy and more authentic feel to our house. Her plan created coherence and calm, and the result was a change from busy “cottage” to streamlined and contemporary craftsman. We also appreciated her attentiveness to environmental issues throughout the process.
