RJ: contemporary renovation and addition in carrboro
These clients hoped to add light and openness to their kitchen. Moreover, they had a fun and novel idea to make theirs a one-of-a-kind space that they would enjoy for years. Their vision was to involve their friends in the process. They threw a party, and the 'cost of admission' was a glass bottle. Then, each bottle was crushed and mixed into the concrete that was formed into the countertop for the new kitchen island which now hosts the microwave. Truly a unique conversation piece.
The kitchen was opened up to add easy traffic flow into the dining room. We added stylish lighting and an inviting paint scheme. Flowing from the dining room is a new screen porch. The vaulted space with a ceiling fan is perfect to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Upstairs, we modernized the master bath, adding double sinks, a whirlpool tub and an updated walk-in shower. We retained the existing tile floor to maintain the period feel of the home. New windows bring in more light and add a sense of space.
